On the love of life and love of food…

Julia Child author of ‘The Joy of Cooking’ quoted that ‘people who love to eat are always the best people’. One of the best moments of my life is when I sit around with friends having great conversations and having a delicious meal.

It was a cool October afternoon when I visited 3 Dee restaurant, I was excited and eager to visit the restaurant and try something I had never done before – tasting authentic Kenyan food. Nestled away on Elgeyo Road, off Ngong Road near Adams Arcade the restaurant is known to be among one of the best restaurants serving traditional Kenyan food in Nairobi.

The outside cabin seating is fresh and serene surrounded by the green colors of Nairobi city bringing in a cozy atmosphere to compliment the comfort food served. The restaurant is family owned and run; I absolutely loved how they were actively engaged in all the operation aspects. They were extremely attentive, patient and make time to cater to all visitors.

All the food supplies are locally sourced and the owners believe that in order for the food to be soulful, all the produce must be local. Their special tilapia fish is fresh and brought in daily from Kisumu.

The food was an exceptional experience, and I am definitely taking more friends with me on my next visit to try, taste and experience traditional Kenyan meals.

A must try on the menu that will give your taste buds a tantalising feel:

Charcoal grilled fish with brown ugali and kachumbari

  • Kenyan styled grilled chicken with greens
  • Grilled tilapia fish with chips masala
  • Dry fry fish with white ugali
  • Dry fry chicken with onions
  • Creamed spinach
