A couple of weeks ago I was extremely lucky to get a sneak peek inside one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Nairobi. I stayed at One Forty Eight for one night during a rainy weekend and it was all I needed to soak in all the excitement and magic of the place.
One Forty Eight is located in the peaceful and green suburbs of Langata and is 40 minutes away from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Bordering the giraffe sanctuary the hotel was previously a private home which forms the foundation of the main house. When I first arrived, it felt like I was looking at an artistic picture from a gallery. I needed a second to realize that I was in Nairobi.
The location is absolutely serene, warthogs, parrots and monkeys freely roam around the gardens while you can often hear the sound of lions and hyenas from the proximity of Nairobi National Park.
The house feels exclusively private with only eight bedrooms. The main house consists of three bedrooms and a loft for the children. Once the home of an artist, the artists studio has been converted into three apartments and two studios.
Owned by Richard and Liz who are also the owners of Richards Camp in the Masai Mara, One Forty Eight sits on lush green grasses and a plentiful of trees. The hotel features original art work which makes the art lover in me fall in love with the place even more. During our stay, we were welcomed by Magdelle and Ann, the hotel managers who made us feel just at home. Their hospitality is overwhelming welcoming. Liz, the owner of the hotel is adorable and absolutely stunning, her charm complimented my stay even more.
This is an ideal location for visitors to spend a night before heading to the bush (safari) or right after you have completed your safari trip and need a day to unwind before heading out of the country. It is also a perfect location for people who are in town for business trips, there’s no better place to end your day after a hectic schedule in the hustle and bustle of Nairobi city than in the suburbs of Langata in a beautiful hotel. Residence can also enjoy meals at the hotel by making reservations prior to their visit.
